    Keith Russell’s Rec Gymnastics manuals

Keith Russell has been the principle author of the Canadian coach education programme since 1978.

It’s considered one of the best in the world.

In fact, the FIG Foundations course was also authored by Keith.

Here’s how coach education works in Canada.

Everyone takes 4 hours of theory and the 9 hour Gymnastics Foundations course.

Next you can specialize in Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline or Active Start (preschool).

After completing some work at your own gym, you are evaluated and — finally — fully certified.

You can be an instructor with your own group of kids.

Unfortunately neither the FIG materials nor the Canadian materials are available for purchase. On the upside, you can buy Keith Russell’s school Gymnastics lesson plans online.

Wow Rick, that’s the simplest explanation of the GF program that I have seen! Thanks for that; I believe that the Introduction course is taken before the Theory.

Linda Thorberg – SHY KIDS IN CLASS

The first week of Gym in September we had a class of 3yr-old boys starting at night, during Team practice.

3 of the 4 boys were distracted, but managed the Class. One tried twice — but was not able to join in. Instead, he and Mom watched the Class. Hopefully, he’ll be more ready to PLAY week #2.

    Linda Thorberg addresses that issue:

Anytime you have new students coming into your facility you may need to have strategies to deal with shy children. Being shy is a typical response for preschoolers and young children …
