Bars – glide swing drill
Here’s a good idea for one of your circuits. Kids who do not yet have strong enough hip flexors can still train the glide swing. ๐

I canโt think of another drill where a beginner can work both KIP and CAST HANDSTAND without needing a coach spotting. Thanks Tumbl Trak. ๐

The kip on Bars is one of the most difficult skills in Gymnastics. Shawn Johnson said it was the most difficult skill for her.
But every little girl wants to try it.
Here’s a good drill that requires no spotting.

Rings are one of least expensive apparatus you can add to your gym. Those from Tumbl Trak cost as little as $56.
I love to see girls doing anything on Rings. They are even better for general upper body strength than rope.

I especially like the flyaway from Rings. :_

Here’s another new product video from my friends at Tumbl Trak.
5 Set-ups in 1 Bar System!
(1) Single bar,
(2) Double bar,
(3) Mini Unevens,
(4) P-bars, or
(5) Multi-Use Fun/Wall Station, the 5-in-1 Bar System is big in ideas and uses for its small footprint. Each bar is adjustable from 38″ to 59″ and is stable enough for various swinging, hanging and strength skills. The 5-in-1 system is action packed as several learners can be engaged at one time. Supportive enough to strap a wall system, (add a Power Launch and floor bar!) for a full circuit work out!

In June 2012 package options start at $730.15.
Details.
The very BEST way to introduce beginners to the concept of long hang swing.
Yet many gyms have rules against swinging Rings. That’s sad.
Often the argument is that some sort of damage is done to the apparatus. That’s not the case if any kind of swivel is used up top.
Safety is a concern. You need assure there are good mats over the long arc of the Rings. (Pit Rings are ideal.)
And the activity of swinging Rings even leads to skills. It’s a good way to introduce Dislocate on Rings, for example.
In Swizerland it’s a competitive sport.
At Gymnaestrada there were plenty of Swiss athletes who could dismount double back (or more). I watched the new World Record, within some random Guinness time frame (750 seconds).

The Swiss on swinging rings is always one of the highlights of the Gymnaestrada. The great thing about swinging rings is that it’s not just for guys….plenty of girls are on the team too.

Coach Ariel from Renmore in Ireland edited a video of the week I visited in June working with all programs from Rec to Competitive.

She did a great job capturing all the stages of introducing Flyaway from GAMES through to the actual Flyaway to ANGRY CAT.
Renmore does not have a pit so we introduced Blind Change LATE, a much safer and easier way to start than Swing half turns in series.
