I was guest speaker and VIP at the wonderful year end gymnastics show in Galway, Ireland.
… Leisureland sports complex, Salthill on June 22nd featuring almost all of its members. The showcase will include displays from beginner and recreational gymnasts, through to competitive and elite squad gymnasts. This lively show will feature Disciplines such as Men’s and Women’s Artistic, Tumbling and Rhythmic gymnastics. Due to the large membership numbers the evening will be divided into two separate shows …

All the older kids were invited. This gave them a GOAL to work towards during the last weeks of the school year.
The club recovered costs by charging 3 Euro entry. And packed the venue for both shows.
These programs are super popular with kids and parents.
… Drop off the kids for a great night of supervised open gym, games, fun and pizza.
Consider the insurance / liability risk before offering it at your gym.
Here is a glimpse of the amazing year end gymnastics performance at Gerpla, Reykjavik. They celebrated the 40th anniversary of the club founding in style.

All 4 shows that weekend were sold out.
Thanks Gummi Brynjólfsson for inviting me. I’m volunteer coaching at the gym tonight.

If you had to pick either the Alberta Rec Retreat or the BC congress, which one would you go to (there both the same weekend)? Without looking at travel costs ect.. Which is the most educational and worth while?

For Rec, definitely Alberta.
BC offers many streams, including Rec, so it’s more useful if you want to cover more topics.

I love the ‘donut’ mats that break into two halves.
Aside from all the excellent stations we can set up with them, they make great PADDING while stored. At CGC they are here protecting Bar cables. At Altadore they use them to pad the base of the vault horse.
What kind of stations can you use a donut mat for?
I started coaching this year and don’t have many ways to use them. Any kind of activities would be appreciated.

All sorts of stations in circuits. Put the round side down, and it makes for an unstable base. Kids have a blast crossing it, balancing on it.

Many years retired, Krista is back in the gym, training at Adult Rec.
Somehow she and former teammate Kerby talked themselves into coming out of retirement.
Weirdest part?
… In the gym where formerly they were the best gymnasts, nobody knows them anymore. 🙂
