gymnastics birthday parties
Almost always winners.
At Taiso we had a “script” for parties. Do all the FUN, SAFE things in the gym appropriate to complete beginners.

Coming SOON from Norberts:
28″ high walls are 8″ thick and filled with a sturdy crosslink and high-density polyfoam combination.
Four walls easily connect with a hook and loop fastening system.
Includes a detachable vinyl floor sheet.
Balls sold separately. Requires 3500 balls.

I love that the balls are sold separately. I would consider filling them up with foam cubes to have an instant mini-pit for the pre-schoolers. Considering it’s set-up and take down capabilities, I’m sure it would be much easier to clean than a built-in pit.

… Bikram Yoga Northwest offers two different summer camps designed to teach kids the basics of yoga through fun, games, music, dance, crafts and play.
Little Sprouts runs from July 16 to 20 and teaches kids age four to six about movement and posture through games involving storytelling, mimicking animals, drumming, chanting and role playing, among others.
For the older kids, age seven to 11, Sprouts runs from July 23 to 27 and offers a more in depth focus on proper yoga technique though still with an eye towards fun.
A new friend is recommends the training courses offered by Rainbow Kids Yoga out of Vancouver, Canada.
In January I traveled to London for the Olympic Test Meet, a “dress rehearsal” of the Olympics for Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline.
From there I visited 10 gyms, some of my travel expenses covered by the Tumbl Trak Ambassador ‘s program:
Ireland: Excel, Renmore, Trojan, Janz and Sugarloaf.
Belgium: Melsele, St-Niklaas, Bazel and Gymclub Apollo.
England: Europa Gymnastics Centre
Gymnastics is gymnastics, the clubs in Europe not all that different than in America. Coaches all seek best ways to keep their kids happy, healthy and improving.
A short version of my report is now posted on Tumbl Trak’s March Newsletter. Or you can read a longer version as a PDF.
I love Tumbl Trak.
The Air Trak is an inflated tumbling strip designed for use in gymnastics, cheerleading and general fitness.
Its advantages include versatility, portability and small storage requirements. Each unit runs from a high output, constant flow blower (included in price) and takes less than 30 seconds to inflate. The Air Trak is available in red and blue (as shown).

I dropped in on my old friend Darlene Traviss at her new facility, Flip Factory in N.E. Calgary.
Darlene’s that rarity. An entrepreneur in socialist Canada. (Most gyms are parent governed in Canada.)
Her club is staying away from competitive Artistic gymnastics. But they offer just about everything else.
Preschool makes up about 60% of the membership.
Trampoline, Circus, Demo Team (Gymnaestrada), …
When construction is complete, here’s the goal:
5,600 square feet of gym space which houses: 4 full size trampolines, a 40′ tumble track, a 40′ x 40′ sprung floor exercise space, a large foam pit, indoor toboggan hill for preschoolers, 40′ bouldering wall, beams, low tight ropes, slack lines, bars (including a pit bar), lots of climbing ropes, rings and vaulting apparatus.
Typical rotations:
• Mission Impossible obstacle course
• Reverse Bungee: a giant jolly jumper
• Gladiators: semi-combative challenges
• Parkour on a dedicated circuit, complete with tramp wall
Special Needs kids are welcomed:
Down’s Syndrome
Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Cerebral Palsy
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Amputees
ADD and ADHD
Autism and Asperger’s
Brain injuries
An additional 2000 square foot mezzanine space houses our Tot Drop-In during the daytime. This area is filled with equipment specially designed for 1 – 5 year olds: Mats of all shapes and sizes, slides, climbing apparatus, ball pits and more. Equipment configuration and pieces change weekly. This gym is well padded and encourages movement and exploration. A seating area for parents built into the space makes it a perfect spot to hang out with friends while letting preschoolers burn off energy! The mezzanine space is cleared and available to other groups in the evenings.
A 750 square foot hardwood dance studio is used for our fitness classes and is also available to other groups.
Two spacious birthday party rooms are available for eats and treats after activities in the gym are finished up.
CONGRATULATIONS Darlene. I’m completely impressed.

Kids at Brinnon Elementary School located in Washington State enjoyed 4 days of FUN and FITNESS.
Jefferson County Parks & Rec provided the instruction.
Tumbl Trak donated much of the equipment.
Here’s Carrie Lennox with equipment used in the program.
Ideal for mobile programs like this are inflatables.
Carrie does amazing things with rope. (Her husband is a mountain climber.)
Carrie’s big into slack lines, too.
See more photos.
Love it.
Nadia is the biggest name in Olympic gymnastics. Yet she and husband Bart Conner combine their annual gymnastics meet with a FESTIVAL of fitness accessible to all, even non-gymnasts.

… sponsored in part by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma. The festival was held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
I visited Lieven Vercruyssen, founder and chief evangelist of Eurogym Belgium and EuroTumble.com.
… supplier of inflatable gymnastics equipment in Europe. …
Our equipment is quickly inflated and deflated and because it is also airtight a constant blower is not needed. It is very compact and takes a small space in the storage room. …
I tagged along with Lieven to Gymclub Apollo in Antwerp where he set up an Air Floor for the coaches and gymnasts to test.
Lieven is expert in setting up and deflating as quickly as possible.
The kids got in on the fun.
Apollo is a set-up, take-down gym in a school. With limited storage. An Air Floor is ideal in their situation.

Eurotumble is the distributor of TumblTrak in Europe.
I’d prefer kids be doing gymnastics in a proper facility, with a qualified instructor. … But “home” gymnastics is very, very popular. This Tumbl Trak video has gone viral with over half a million hits.
Tumbl Trak products that work in the home.

Right now I’m out with the Tumbl Trak video crew. They’ve got BIG plans for future videos. I’ll link to the best of the best.
Thanks Chris.
